Welcome to the Pilgrim Lane Elementary School Legacy Website
From the day it became the first new elementary school in Plymouth Village in 1966 until its closure in June 2009, Pilgrim Lane Elementary School educated and nurtured the lives of thousands of young people and their families. Legacy Night -- May 28, 2009
Legacy Night took place on Thursday, May 28, 2009 with a community celebration and parade at Pilgrim Lane Elementary School. We shared memories, said thanks to staff, past and present, and were reminded of what this school has meant to our neighborhood over the past 43 years. Click on the Legacy Night menu item to see pictures from the event.
The Plymouth Sun Sailor had a wonderful story about Pilgrim Lane entitled "Pilgrim Lane says goodbye, after 43 years in Plymouth." It was a front page article that ran on June 4, 2009. You can read the article on the Sun Sailor website at this URL: http://www.mnsun.com/articles/2009/06/09/news/rs04pilgrimlane.txt.

Farewell Roger Evans 1939 - 2009
Roger O. Evans passed away July 18, 2009 at the
age of 70 after a courageous battle with a rare genetic disorder which led to
chronic liver failure. Mr. Evans was an educator in the Robbinsdale Schools for
35 years and ended his career as principal at Pilgrim Lane from 1989 - 1996. He
also spent two years as Pilgrim Lane's Instructional Assistant, where he
introduced students and faculty to his fake toucan. He often encouraged others
by pointing to his toucan and saying "You toucan succeed!"
Roger was president of the first graduating class at Robbinsdale High School. Although he began to study engineering at the University of Minnesota, he was convinced to switch his major to elementary education by his high school sweetheart, Joyce, whom he later married. He spent time at Adair, Neill, Crystal Heights, Sonnesyn, Sandburg, and finally Pilgrim Lane before retiring in 1996. After his retirement, he moved to his lake cabin in Sylvan Township, where he used his handyman skills to turn the cabin into a large lake home. His other hobbies included flying, water skiing, gardening, golf and ballroom dancing.
